Honest question for my disabled friends, colleagues, & scholars: Are disability and able-bodiedness mutually exclusive? My embodied experience (with/limited to chronic illness) is that they aren’t as dichotomous as they seem. #DisabilityTwitter @DisInHigherEd @AcademicChatter

Anonymous Question "Is there anyone else who needed more than one application cycle to secure a PhD position? I didn’t get a single offer in 2022 despite securing interviews at every place I applied. Is this the universe telling me that I should give up on the idea of a PhD?"

In Indian context, I also notice this difference between the metro vs rural students. It seems like the educational experience is design for them and the others are shooed it reluctantly. #AcademicChatter
As a first-gen student, I've always known that other students with legacies in academia or family histories of college education have inherent advantages over me, but I don't think I've ever been able to see and understand that as clearly as today.

I’m trying to convince an (academic) friend to do online dating, and the analogy I gave them was online dating is like reading a paper.. Hear me out 🤣 1. The profile picture is the title. It’s what first attracts you to learning more 1/4 @AcademicChatter #AcademicTwitter

I never posted reviewers comments on twitter before. However, I think this one deserve it. A reviewer rejected our manuscript citing "unpublished negative studies" that already demonstrated we are wrong. Studies to which we do not have access, and which were never peer reviewed.

Some people wonder why I suddenly stop responding sometimes. It's because if I detect that someone is acting in bad faith, responding uncharitably, or projecting onto their "idea" of me rather than what is in front of them, I immediately move on. I value my time and energy!

If you are on the academic job market and no one has told you: you are allowed to have geographic parameters. To stay close to family, for a partner’s job, or just because you like/don’t like a place on the map…it’s okay to care about where you live. @AcademicChatter #phdchat

I understand people worry about coming across too negative about academia, but acknowledging truth first makes you a positive role model. It takes nothing away to acknowledge the hardships many face, and it makes a great difference for those who endure them.

So much of academia is people trying to convince you that if you just get through the next few weeks, you'll get a break. If you are new to this world, let me give you one bit of advice; breaks are taken, not given, and the only way to get one is to decide you are having one.

Anonymous Question "What's your advice when your potential future PhD professor isn't replying? And you're meant to be applying for funding together with a deadline in early September? I don't want to email too much and seem too keen/pushy"
